DAR-ES-SALAAM- Tanzania’s John Pombe Magufuli has announced East Africa’s toughest Lock down in awake of surging COVID-19 cases.
Magufuli has announced that all human activities and movement are illegal in the country with immediate effect as the country struggles to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The Presidential directive comes a day after Tanzania announced 53 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, raising the country’s tally to over 147.
The Minister of Health Ummy Mwalimu issued a statement on Saturday morning saying that the 53 new cases were confirmed positive during tests that were conducted yesterday.
Tanzania has been blamed by neighboring countries of President Pombe Magufuli’s refusal to declare a lockdown which has kept crowds in places of worship and schools where the spread of the virus is paramount.
