MITOOMA- The Ruhinda County Member of Parliament Hon Captain Donozio Kahonda Mugabe has refuted claims that he ordered the arrest of Ambrose Byamugisha Muhoozi who is eyeing his seat.
Ambrose Byamugisha Muhoozi was on Friday June 26th 2020 arrested by police in Kabira for allegedly holding a mass gathering of more than 50 people contrary to the directives by government and Ministry of Health Guidelines towards stemming the spread of Coronavirus.
He was later transferred to Mitooma Central Police station where he was detained till Saturday.
However a number of residents especially those siding with Byamugisha rushed to different media platforms accusing the legislator of being behind the arrest.
Ziporah Karungi, the political assistant to Ambrose Byamugisha Muhoozi morning told our reporter that the arrest was made on orders of Hon Kahonda.
“It was an order from above, Kahonda has a hand in it, she said.
However, Hon Kahonda on Saturday morning appeared at Mitooma Central Police station to rescue his friend and secured him a bond.
Talking to our reporter, Kahonda said he did not know about the arrest until when he was informed by another entity that his friend was arrested for holding a mass gathering.
“Just police did their work but I had to help him like my brother”, he told our reporter.
The soft spoken Hon Kahonda added that hatred politics cannot help the people of Mitooma district and emphasized that all political activities should be done in harmony in favor of voters.
Ambrose Byamugisha Muhoozi is among the Ruhinda MP Seat aspirants. Others are the re-known General Kahinda Otafiire who lost to Hon Kahonda in 2016 and Engineer Pathias Tugume.
