SHEEMA- The Police in Sheema District have arrested a UPDF Captain for allegedly shooting dead his nephew in Kashenyi Village in, Kyamuraari Ward in Bugongi Town Council.
Sheema District Police Commander Scovia Birungi said that Uganda Captain Peter Mweebwe shot his nephew dead after accusing him of allegedly taking cow dung manure from his farm.
DPC Birungi that Captain Peter Mweebwe, who is attached to Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, shot dead his nephew identified as Winston Mugizi aged 38 years, using an AK-47 gun.
Mweebwe accused the deceased of unlawfully taking cow dung manure from his kraal to use in his plantation without his consent.
“The information we have so far indicates that Capt. Mweebwe’s cows have been destroying Mugizi’s plantations and that he had told Mweebwe to fence his farm such that the cows stop destroying his plantations, although the latter refused.”
The DPC also said that it is alleged that when the Captain refused to fence his farm, Mugizi decided to get a heap of cow dung from Mweebwe’s farm and take it to his plantations without the latter’s permission.
“So yesterday Sunday June 28th 2020, at around 8:00pm in Omukabaare trading Centre, in Bugongi village when Capt. Mweebwe and Mugizi, who were alleged to have been drunk, quarreled over the cow dung, which forced the Captain who was armed with a gun to shoot Mugizi in the chest, killing him instantly.” The DPC narrated.
DPC Birungi revealed that she commanded an operation together with Sheema Central Police and CID Charles Tukahiirwa and arrested Capt. Mweebwe and he will be arraigned in court to face charges of murder when investigations are completed.
