KANUNGU- Nyaka Aids Foundation on Thursday October 29th 2020 organized a virtual replica New York marathon in Kanungu District which started in Kambuga at Bishop Comboni college playground at 5am.
According to the organizers, five people participated in the 42km marathon which was won by Kamusiime Alex Kazigaba followed by Ampeire Smith and Tumusiime Elvis Brian then Asia Peter and Kato Ronald respectively.
The event was however disrupted by the rain after Nyarurambi Primary School in Kambuga Sub County.
The race was tracked by mapping and the recording of each participant recorded because they were connected to the internet where recording was done and monitored.
According to one of the participants Ampeire Smith, there was no cheating or taking short cuts since the runners were monitored.
Ampaire confessed to our reporter that Running is the hardest sport when you hear Joshua Kiptegei winning its real competition; however all the 5 participants finished successfully at around 10:00 am, and ended again at the same venue.
This is the first time a replica of the New York marathon is carried out in Uganda by Nyaka Aids Foundation.
