Buhweju West MP contestant rejects elections results citing irregularities

BUHWEJU– One of the contestants who had stood independently for the Buhweju West Parliamentary seat Hon. Mareeba Daniel has decried the irregularities that marred the elections.

According to the results declared by the Buhweju district Returning officer Alex Ainebyoona on 15th January 2021, Hon Biraaro Ephraim of the NRM won with 14,423 votes while Nareeba Daniel garnered 10,234 votes.

Others in the race were Twinomugisha Wilson independent who polled 1,300 votes, Abenaitwe Evath Kafureeka of the FDC gnarred 175 votes and Mpirwomugisha Isiah of ANT 142 votes.

Talking to our reporter today Monday 25th, January 2021, Nareeba Daniel said the election was not free and fair citing irregularities such as beating up of his agents, buying voters and said even unregistered voters were allowed to vote on some polling stations.

“It’s not my habit to go to court but this poll was really challenging because of all those irregularities even there was some sectarian gospel relating to religion in some parts”, Mr Nareeba explained.

However, he said the people of Buhweju west still need more services such as coffee factories and good roads which he will keep chasing for even after elections.

“We even need to educate people on modern agriculture techniques and tell them how they can benefit from it” he added.
