Kayonza Growers Tea Factory General Manager Sacked


KANUNGU– The Board of Directors of Kayonza Growers Tea Factory Ltd have declined to renew the contract of the General Manager and have ordered him to immediately hand over the office to the caretaker.

According to a letter dated February 18th 2021, signed by Mubangizi John Jones on behalf of the Board of the Directors, the General Manager Turyatemba Christopher was duly informed that his request to renew the contract was declined.

The letter which is on Uganda Tea Development Agency Ltd Letterhead however did not disclose why Mr Turyatemba contract who assumed office in 2016 was declined.

Mr Turyatemba has been at the helm of Kayonza Growers Tea Factory Ltd in Kanungu District where he oversaw the installation of the 3rd Line of Tea production amid Coronavirus pandemic challenges.

The letter which this Online Publication has got a copy, directed Turyatemba to follow the process of hand over to his surbodinate Jotham Musinguzi and ensure that the Uganda Tea Development Agency Ltd Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors or their appointed representative attend the handover.

Uganda Tea Development Agency Ltd is the sole organisations that is mandated to manage Tea In Uganda.

According to the insider, the Board of Directors sat on 18th February 2021, it’s the same day that a letter declining the renewal of the contract was written and moments after, Turyatemba was was called in to hand over Factory property to Musinguzi Jotham.

During his time at Kayonza Growers Tea Factory Ltd, Turyatemba also superintended on acquisition of land earmarked for construction of a new factory in Mpungu Sub County following increased leaf harvest from the area. The construction of of the factory in Mpungu is going on.

When contacted Mr Turyatemba said that he has already handed over office as directed and has nothing to say about why the Board of Directors declined to renew his contract.

About 20 years ago, Turyatemba worked at Kayonza Growers Tea Factory Ltd as a Factory Administrator and one of the first University graduates at the time, before he left to work with Kanungu District Local Government where he was Head hunted again and returned to the factory 5 years ago.
