Policeman guns down suspect in Sheema


SHEEMA- Sheema Central police station is holding a police man attached to Kitagata police station who on Wednesday afternoon shot and killed a 26 years old man whom he had gone to arrest.

Eliab Ndebesa a police man at Kitagata shot dead Eliot Kanyesigye a resident of Bubaare 1 in Rutooma ward Kitagata town council in Sheema district.

Charles Kahuuhe, the father of the deceased, told the press that his son, seemingly mentally ill, had turned rowdy as we tried to take him to the hospital and threatened to kill his brother and him (father).

As officers tried their best to arrest him, the man turned more rowdy and officers fired at him since he almost strangled them.

“When the police reached, they tried their level best but he seemed to be violent to them which angered an officer to shoot him on the head dying instantly” Kahuuhe noted.

The Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson SP Martial Tumusiime said that the police man was trying to defend himself since the suspect had turned violent against them.

“He locked one police man inside the house and was trying to cut afande Eliab Ndebesa with a machete but our officer overpowered him by shooting self defense” Martial told the press.

Martial added that Ndebeesa has been arrested, detained and he will answer charges of murder.

Bubaare 1 residents condemned the policeman’s acts calling on the judiciary to ensure acting upon the officer so that his fellows can learn to act professionally once they are tapped in such a situation.
