COVID 19 vaccine arrives in Uganda


KAMPALA– The Minister of Health Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has today afternoon received the first consignment of AstraZeneca COVID 19 vaccine which arrived in the country.

Dr Jane Ruth A eng who was accompanied by by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health officials received the initial batch of 864,000 dose of vaccines that arrived.

The AstraZeneca COVID 19 vaccine were manufactured by Serum Institute of India and was shipped to Uganda via the COVAX facility grant.

Also present to receive the vaccines at Entebbe International Airport were the US Ambassador to Uganda and other Ambassadors from the European Union.

Speaking at the function, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Uganda Yonas Woldemariam urged all people who have been identified for initial and subsquent vaccination to turn up immediately and take the vaccine that will protect them and others without hastation.

According to the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwine, they have identified frontline workers who include the health workers, teachers, security personnel, people of 50 years of age and above and those with underlying health conditions to be the first to benefit from the first phase of vaccination.

Dr Atwine told journalists that the vaccination will be launched on Monday 8th March 2021, and roll out vaccinations on 10th 2021 across the country.
