RUKUNGIRI– Youth leaders in Rukungiri District have been warned against embracing dangerous ideologies that may lead to Violence and divisionism thus creating room for poor governance.
“Difference in political gender of any form is a poisonous ideology for it sets up communities against each other and kills cooperation because of superficial divisions,” Dr. Ham Akampurira the incoming district youth chairperson said this in a speech during the Rukungiri outgoing youth leadership handover ceremony at the district headquarters on Thursday.
The ceremony which attracted more than 10 youth leaders from Western region, was organised by the Outgoing youth leadership.
Dr. Akampurira said leaders who promote political differences based on political parties and religions are enemies of youths’ progression.
“Such leaders are enemies of development because once in office we serve both parties and even for proper service delivery we need to cooperate with other parties in power” he said.
He added that so far as a youth leader, he has already lobbied for a youth hub in Buyanja Sub-county adding that soon, every sub-county in the district will have one for innovative youth within the District.
Dickson Nampumuza the Outgoing youth Chairperson hailed Rukungiri youths for honoring them a chance to serve amidst all odds hence pledging full support to the incoming youth leadership.
Nampumuza called for a need to lobby for the youth office in the District following the little funding from the government rather than looking at their positions as sources of income.
“The issue of leadership is very important in the transformation of societies, It is not any issue to play with. It is instead a serious mission and youth leaders must be equipped with a right set of ideas to secure the interests and stability of the youth rather than looking for money in office,” he said.
Johnbosco Twesigomwe the Senior Community Development Officer tasked the youth leaders not to instil defiance culture in youth but rather teach them good morals for transformed leadership.
Chalean Musiime the Rukungiri District labour officer who represented the District Community Development Officer pledged full support to the youth leadership calling for cooperation to achieve their dreams and objectives.
“They way you represent yourself today, represents your tomorrow” said Chalean.
Mr. Harrison Mukuru the Rukungiri District probations officer at the function called for different obligations among youth leaders in getting access to youth interests.
