KALUNGU– Uganda National Roads Authority [UNRA] has announced that Kampala – Masaka road will remain closed today for the 3rd running as the engineers put culverts.
According to a statement issued today morning, UNRA laboured to inform all road users on the Kampala—Masaka Road that the section at Lwera has been rendered impassable.
According to UNRA spokesman Allan Ssempebwa, the closure of the road section follows the ongoing rains and the heavy trucks passing through the section which did not give the maintenance works time to set and hence compromising motorability.
The UNRA spokesman said in the statement that their team is now on site to continue addressing this situation which started on Wednesday afternoon.
This has forced the Uganda Police – Traffic Department to stop and divert the current flow of traffic gridlock in the area.
Ssempebwa has therefore said that UNRA advise motorists intending to travel through Lwera and Masaka from Kampala to use the Mpigi—Kanoni—Sembabule—Villa Maria—Masaka road as an alternative route to avoid the delays.
The diversion makes the journey 80 kms longer.
Uganda National Roads Authority has meanwhile regretted the inconvenience caused to the general public about the closure of the road especially at this time when people are traveling upcountry for Easter festivities.
The travelers have however pinned UNRA over what they called incompetence and wonder why they start works on the road during the festive seasons.
