RUKIGA– The government of Uganda in conjunction with MK publishers has given out 222 boxes of textbooks to all Primary schools in Rukiga district.
The textbooks are for all subjects including Mathematics, Science, Social studies and English and they will be distributed to all private and government schools in the district.
Rukiga district has 94 schools, 71 government aided and 21 privately owned.
The textbooks were given out to school administrators today Tuesday 6th April 2021 at Bukinda Primary Teachers college by Mr Moses Tumuhimbise, the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) chairperson for Rukiga district.
While handing over the books, Mr Tumuhimbise thanked the government for remembering Schools and giving them revised and summarized syllabus after a long spell of suffering that was caused by covid-19 pandemic. He said the textbooks are for p.5, 6 and P.7 classes.
Mr Hanningtom Bahimbise, the Head teacher of Butare primary School acknowledged receipt of the books and thanked the government for the good work.
He advised fellow headteachers and administrators to use the books appropriately so that they can improve on their academic performances.
Mr Alfred Katwire, the headteacher of Muhanga Golden Day and Boarding primary school told our reporter that they have already received 98 textbooks.
“Let me thank the government because it’s my first time to see the government giving out text books to private schools”, Mr Katwire explained.
The distribution of textbooks comes as P.4 and P.5 class pupils reported back to school today 6th April 2021 after a year since Schools were closed down to curtail the spread of covid-19.
