Fuel tanker catches fire in Bushenyi, kills one, burns motorcycles to ashes


BUSHENYI– One person has been confirmed dead and 2 injured in an accident involving a fuel truck along the Ishaka-Kagamba road. 

Martial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson said that the driver of the fuel truck lost control as he was sloping Omukatagu hill in Ibaare sub county Bushenyi district and overturned at around 2pm today.

Tumusiime said the driver of the truck reg. SSD 802H whose names have not been identified was rushed to Kitagata hospital in critical condition while the turn boy only Identified as Edrisa died on spot.

He said that one boda boda cyclist was injured and 2 motorcycles were burnt to ashes after they had come to siphon the fuel when the vehicle exploded and went up in flames.

Tumusiime identified the injured boda boda cyclists as Vicent Twijukye and 2 motorcycles reg number UEW 438Q and UET 869R were burnt to ashes when the petrol tanker exploded into flames.

Tumusiime adds that the police deployed a fire brigade truck from Bushenyi to try to put off the fire as investigations are ongoing to establish the identities in the accident.
