KAMPALA– The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Microfinance has disclosed that it had disbursed Ugx 200 billion to 6,394 Constituency based Saccos across the country by the end of April 2021.
This was disclosed today by the Executive Director of Uganda Microfinance Support Center, John Peter Mujuni while opening a one day stakeholders engagement meeting on the performance of Emyooga Funds. Program.
The event which was organised by the Microfinance Support Center took place at Royal Suites Hotel Bugolobi in Kampala.
Mujuni reminded the participants from 15 Districts who have ably managed the Emyooga Funds that the money they received is not political and any individual, group or Sacco members who mismanage the funds will be held responsible.
He said that by end of April 2021, about 42, 707 leaders of various associations had been trained together with Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), District Chief Adminstrative Officers, District Community and District Commercial Officers.
He hailed the Sacco managers who have received the money and managed to disburse it properly following the guidelines given to them by the government.
Mujuni announced that Ugx 9.9 billion has been collected through savings from the Saccos and emphasised the need to have a savings culture and positive attitude to pay back so that the Saccos can be sustained.
The stakeholders meeting was also addressed by the Minister of State for Microfinance Hon Haruna Kasolo and the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
