OpEd– Becoming rich and well off is everyone’s dream and the reason people work tirelessly every now and again

As people continue to work, some traits are usually seen early that someone has higher chances of becoming well off in life. The following are some signs.

Sign 1. You Dream About How to ‘Get Rich,’ Not ‘Being Rich’

This is where your journey begins. This is where it began for me. I read something a few years back that has stuck in my mind to this day. The question was asked, “How much time in each day do you spend planning how to make money?”

That question stunned me. It made me realize that I was in the habit of just dreaming what I would do if I were rich but never made any concrete plans to make money. It sounds obvious and trivial, but this is what 99% of people do every day.

Sign 2. You Teach Yourself New Things

When you left school or college, you thought you were ready to find a job and make your way in this world, right? But, I bet that when you started your first job all the things you had learned at school were useless.

You are not especially forgetful or oblivious; it happens to everyone:It is as true now as it was then that no matter what tests show, very little of what is taught in school is learned, very little of what is learned is remembered, and very little of what is remembered is used.– John Holt

Sign 3. You Work for Yourself, Not Someone Else

There is only one way to chart your own destiny, and that is to work for yourself.

The fundamental reason you cannot become wealthy by working for someone is that your earnings are capped at how much your employer thinks you’re worth. No matter how hard you work, you know that your paycheck will be the same as the last one.

Sign 4. You Plan Ahead and Budget

This is where things get tricky. You know that working for someone else is never going to make you financially independent. That only leaves working for yourself.

People who choose their own destiny understand that leaving their job means planning ahead by finding out as much as possible about any venture they want to undertake. So, for instance, if you decide you want to leave your job and start building websites, then in your spare time you need to teach yourself everything there is to know about web development. That’s not a small undertaking. It means spending all your time planning.

Sign 5. You’re Not Scared to Fail

This is what holds most people back. They are afraid of losing their savings, and they are afraid to be mocked for trying and failing to do something that others won’t try. For them, this double hit is too much to bear.

What people don’t see when they admire someone successful is all the times they failed. Hardly any wealthy person made it to where they are without failing along the way. Most successful people tried and failed at least ten times before they found success.

Sign 6. You Value Your Time

This sounds so cliché, right? But, do you really value your time?

If you haven’t built your fortune yet, then you must be working for someone. This limits your time that you have available to pursue your dreams. But you will be amazed at how much time you can squeeze out of your life when you really want to.
