NEWS– The police in Busia have arrested a 23-year-old man on allegetion of poisoning, to death, a six weeks old baby.
The suspect Peter Wandera was arrested at Masafu hospital where the mother of the deceased had taken the victim for immunization.
Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi region police spokesman confirmed the death and the poisoning.
Mugwe says the mother of the deceased Judith Akuku, had taken the baby to Masafu hospital for immunization when Peter Wandera, her lover, tricked her to leave the child with him.
Jacklyn Akumu, a patient at the hospital, says that she had earlier seen Wandera carrying the baby in the company of the mother to the deceased, in a jovial mood.
The arrested is said to have sent the mother to the deceased to nearby shops to buy air time and used the advantage to poison the baby.
The baby was in good health and had just been immunized.
Kevin Namugaya, a midwife says that Akuku had asked the hospital staff for help when she realised that her child had been poisoned but it was too late. Akuku lost consciousness after the revelation.
