OPINION– This whole month of May will be filled with political news, glamour, pomp, fashion, bizarre and all the other hard decisions especially to be taken by Members of Parliament, Central Executive Committee (CEC) and caucus especially for National Resistance Movement( NRM).
Given the fact that the race for speakership is between Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy Hon Jacob Oulanya.
The request by government to extend the election of the Speakers for two to three days to allow political parties caucus sit and pick their respective candidates for the seats has been granted and the elections for speaker of the 11th Parliament are likely to be conducted on 24th May 2021 after swearing in of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa as the President of Uganda, 2021-2026 and the entire Members of Parliament.
This is intended to ensure that parties decisions on Speakership be made by the new Member of Parliament especially in NRM.
And my informants have said that seems Mzee (President Museveni) does not want outgoing NRM Mps to be in the caucus and the only way to keep these outgoing MPs is to convene the NRM Caucus after swearing in ceremonies, this makes all NRM members of the 11th Parliament part of the caucus and those who did not make it, will seize from being part.
Now, what this means is that those who were part of the 10th Parliament will not be able to influence who the next Speaker of Parliament will be as well can not be a burden in caucus and more so to CEC and to the Chairman of NRM, H.E YK Museveni.
Our research and investigations still put Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga over 80% of support from even the new members of the 11th Parliament, given the fact that she is the only candidate who is able to better on and defend MPs’ welfare while in Parliament, not forgetting putting Women’s issues as top priority in and outside Parliament.
The members of Parliament our sources interacted with strongly believe that Rt Hon Kadaga is more bold and can move forward the 11th Parliament than any other candidate standing for speakership.
Whether NRM CEC refers the issue of speakership to Caucus to vote then to Parliament, Rt Hon Kadaga still holds majority supporters in Parliament.
Let us watch space.
