KISORO– The Kisoro Municipality Mayor Richard Ndyana has distanced himself from the plans of selling public land in a bid to supplement next financial year’s budget.
On Friday last week, the Kisoro Municipal council resolved to sell public land next to Seseme treatment plant in Kisoro Municipality.
The council had resolved to sell the said land to fund a budget of UGX 4.2Bn for 2021/22 financial year however, the news didn’t go well with concerned residents accusing Municipal authorities of being selfish.
Mr. Ndyana who was absent from the council meeting vowed not to allow anyone to sell off government’s property during his term of office. He said that he was yet to receive this council’s decision.
Ndabarinze Christopher the Kamonyi ward Chairperson where the land in question is located also warns Municipal council against selling the public land to avoid being committed to courts of law.
Northern division Chairperson Micheal Bazamanza threatened to resign should the Municipal Authorities go ahead to sell off the land in question.
Hon Bazamanza says he was shocked to learn that Municipal council resolved to sell public land yet Northern division offices are still in rented structures.
He called on residents to join him and protect the land from being sold off by self seekers.
The Chairperson of Kamonyi village Benon Maniragaba, where the land is located told our reporter that he was shocked to hear council’s resolution on the land where they have hopes to build offices.
He Further told the Media that he had already put radio announcements stopping the selling of the land in question.
