GRIEF! Man dies in latrine in Sheema district

SHEEMA– Residents of Mabanga village, Nyanga ward, Kabwohe division in Sheema municipality on Thursday morning woke up to shock after a resident fell and died in a septic tank.

The deceased has only been identified as Osbert and it is alleged that together with a friend were in the process of removing human waste.

ASP Steven Niragire, the Sheema District Police Commander told our reporter that on Thursday morning at around 6:00pm, a man who was working with the deceased reported the death to police about the death of his friend. 

The man led them to the scene and later disappeared to unknown destination.

Jackline Nkamushaba, one of the tenants in the area where Osbert met his death from said the two men started draining human wastes from the latrine at around 8:00pm and later in the night at around 1:00am they heard an alarm from the one who was on top helping Osbert to receive the container.

Arinaitwe Philip one of the deceased’s  friends who hail from Kabwohe narrated that the deceased was only identified as Osbert who originates from Kanungu district and his known occupation was to clean latrines.

According to Innocent Mucunguzi an expert in this job, Osbert might have used an old rope following the findings after retrieving the deceased’s body from the septic.

Hannington Mwikiriize, the Kabwohe division town clerk and Innocent Nkubito, the town agent of the same area said that the latrine which led to Osbert’s death had no building plan and warned all residents with similar structures that they risk being arrested and charged.

A combined Police force from Sheema and Bushenyi first used the vehicle to extract wastes from latrine and retrieved Osbert’s body which was later taken to  Kabwohe Health Centre IV pending Postmortem examination. 


By press time, the landlord’s whereabouts were still unknown as his known contacts could not be reached.
