4 family members killed in Ntungamo arson attack


NTUNGAMO– The Police in Ntungamo district are hunting for unknown assailants who set a house ablaze killing the family head and his three children.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson the police says the inhumane act happened in the wee hours of Monday morning 13th September 2021 in Nyaburiza cell, Nyarutuntu sub county.

Kasasira noted that Police team from homicide, fire rescue, canine and Soco teams responded immediately to the scene of crime and discovered that the assailants had locked the deceased from inside the house before setting it ablaze using petrol.

He adds that the bodies which were burnt beyond recognition were found lying inside the house.

Kasasira identified the victims as Obed Akampurira 28, a father to the children, Innocent Ainamatsiko 10, Peterson Natwijuka 9 and Patricia Ainembabazi 7 all residents of the same area.

It is said that the survivor who is the mother of the children only identified as Birungi was rushed to the hospital for medication.

Kasasira confided to this reporter that there was an odour of petrol in the surroundings and the assailants had abandoned a match box and a panga at the door way.

Police also discovered that Akampurira Obed has been a known motorcycle thief who had just left prisons and the assailants could have been after him since at one time he survived mob justice.

Kasasira revealed that postmortem was conducted at the scene and the efforts to identify suspects for thorough interrogation are on going.

Murder case by arson has been recorded at Ntungamo CPS under file number CRB 1081/2021.
