RUKIGA– Residents of Kibanda parish in Kamwezi Sub County, Rukiga district are counting losses after heavy rains and floods destroyed their properties, gardens and animals.
According the residents, Thursday afternoon downpour lasted for about 4 hours and severely affected villages of Kinyamozi, Kakanyoro, Nyakiju and Kazaaza where most residents lost houses and household properties.
In Kakanyoro, (Omukyapa), Byagaba Ephraim lost his house and merchandise estimated at about Ugx 8M, Karemera Herbert also lost his house plus all households. The duo is now crying for help as well as other residents who, lost animals including sheep, goats, pigs, ducks and chicken.
In Kinyamozi, Dinavence Turekurensi lost all her household materials, house destroyed and all the gardens were also washed away by the downpour.
The hailstorms also never spared the area village Chairman’s 4 goats.
On top of crops destruction, roads were left in a very wanting state and most of the residents could be seen picking some of their belongings from mud and swamps.
Leaders who included the District chairman Mbabazi Robert kakwerere, Sub County Chairperson Nuwagaba Tedison and Youth leader Gibs Turigayomwe have already visited and talked to the affected residents.
The leaders told our reporter that they have assessed the situation in which the area has been affected and promised to report immediately to the Ministry of Disaster to come to their rescue.
