MoH prioritizes vaccination of learners above 18 years ahead of schools reopening

KAMPALA– The director general health services in Uganda Dr. Henry G Mwebesa has appealed to all District Resident Commissioners to direct their District Task Force to utilize district structures mobilize all teachers, non-teaching staff, support staff and students above 18 years to go for COVID-19 Vaccination as a matter of urgency.

In a letter dated 17.09.2021 Dr. Mwebesa says that following Government’s discussion on how to re-open schools, the issue of teachers vaccination of teachers and all workers in schools, including students in tertiary institutions of learning above 18 years, will be a major consideration.

Dr Mwebesa also requested heads of districts task force (RDCs) to direct District Health Teams and Implementing Partners in the district to plan and conduct targeted outreaches/camps for this category of persons in the most convenient and accessible places before the end of September 2O21.

He also emphasized that all students above 18 years should now be prioritized and vaccinated as a precondition to going back to school.
