House fires burn three children to ashes

NAMISINDWA– The Police in Namisindwa district are investigating circumstances sorrounding the death of three children who were burnt to death in two separate house fires within two days in the same area.

Reports indicate that two children were on Sunday 10th October 2021 burnt to death in Bumuleki Village, Bubutu Sub-county in Namisindwa district.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson identified the decesead as Brighton Wandulu, 6 and Blessing Mukite 3, both children of Robert Wamaluku.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire is said to have started at around midnight on the fateful day.

Taitika revealed that Police has already started investigating the actual cause of the fire amidst allegations that it could have started from a burning candle.

Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the children were burnt to death while in their grandmother’s house identified as Mary Nandutu where they were left alone by the time of the incident.

It is not yet clear where the grandmother had gone at that awkward time when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, the same Police in Namisindwa district is also hunting for a mother who on Monday 11th October 2021 left her three months old baby in the house who later on the day died in house fire. 

According to Police, the  deceased infant was identified as Robina Misheru, a child to Sipora Namutebi.

It is alleged that  Namutebi who was cooking beans on a charcoal stove went out to the nearby trading centre to buy some drugs for another sick child leaving the door closed but unfortunately on returning found the house on fire and efforts to save the life of the deceased was fruitless.

A case was opened under file Namisindwa CRB 342/2021 as Police launch hunt for the mother.

By the time of filing this report, the bodies of the three deceased children were still at Mbale City Mortuary.
