Rukungiri floods sweep away bridges

RUKUNGIRI- Transport was on Monday October 11th 2021 paralyzed between Rukungiri Municipality and Buyanja Town Council after floods swept off Kafunjo Bridge that links the two areas. This was after the rain that lasted for almost five hours.

Emmy Agaba Rubondo, the Buyanja Sub County Chairperson told our reporter that the rains never spared crops and other valuables from the areas of Kihunga up to Kafunjo and beyond.

Rubondo, who attributed the calamity to destruction of the wetlands, asked the community to ensure keeping the wetlands in their normal formation and practicing re-afforestation in some areas where trees have been cut.

He confided to our reporter that it’s the district to work upon the damaged part of the road and bridge. By press time, the concerned district officials were yet to issue a statement on the said damaged road and bridge area.

This comes days after floods also cut off the road that connects Mitooma to Rukungiri District at Kanyamirembe near Buhunga Primary School in Rukungiri district over the weekend.
