KABALE– Hope Kishande Kivengere the former Press Secretary and special assistant to President Yoweri Museveni is to be laid to rest on Saturday in Kabale.
Hope Kivengere, President Museveni’s longest serving Press Secretary having served in the position from 1986 up to 2001 passed away on Tuesday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala where she had been undergoing treatment.
Ms Kivengere worked as Uganda’s representative on the COMESA Committee of Elders, a nine-member committee with representatives from nine COMESA member countries.
Between 2016 and 17, she worked with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. Previously, she worked with AU peacekeeping missions in Sudan and in Somalia.
In 2018, she was selected by COMESA to head its team to observe Egypt’s presidential elections which president Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi won to retain his seat.
According to the program, on Thursday October 21st 2021 there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral and another Funeral on Saturday October 23rd 2021 at St Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama and her body will later be laid to rest at their home in Rugarama.
Hope Kivengere was the first born of the four daughters of Rt Rev. Dr Festo Kivengere and Canon Merabu Kivengere the First African and second Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi who passed on in 1988 and Merabu Kivengere who passed on in 2005.

Rtd Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu the Minister of security says that it is with profound sadness that I report the loss of Hope Kivengere. To many she was an outstanding civil servant with an impeccable record. To me she was a dear first cousin and friend. Fare thee well Hope.
