Medical Interns to lay down tools over unfulfilled presidential pledge

KAMPALA– The medical interns under their umbrella Association of Federation for Uganda Medical Interns have threatened to lay down their tools unless the presidential pledge to increase their allowances is honoured.

According  to a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development dated October 19th 2021, and signed by the President of Federation of Uganda Medical Interns Dr Nabwire Mary Lilian and the Secretary General Dr  Nabushawo Faith, the interns will lay down their tools starting November 6th 2021, if their demands are not met by the government.

According to the letter which  this Online Publication has a copy, President Museveni is reported to have directed the Ministry of Finance to increase the Medical Interns allowances starting July 2021, but up to now the Ministry has not effected the  payments.

The medical interns indicate that ever since the President made directive to increase their allowances, the Ministry of Finance has remained and this continue to demotivate them.

The letter is copied to Minister of Health, the  Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Service.
