Gov’t Chief whip waters down Rukungiri District hopes for Public University


RUKUNGIRI– Hopes of Rukungiri district natives to get a Public University will remain a dream after being told that government is not yet ready to bring one.

The message was delivered by the Government Chief Whip who is also the Ruhinda North legislator Hon. Thomas Tayebwa while addressing people who congregated at Immaculate Heart School Nyakibale in NRM celebrations organized by Rukungiri Revival Development Organization (RURDO).

Hon. Tayebwa explained that people of Rukungiri should not expect a University soon adding that the government is only planning to have one at every sub region level.

In last general election campaign, most politicians in the district pledged a University in the district but people’s hopes have since been watered down by the government’s Chief whip statement.

Hon. Tayebwa however encouraged leaders in Rukungiri district now to concentrate on improving Technical schools with the aim of helping young generation acquire skills after their primary and secondary levels.


The Chief whip rubished some leaders who pretend to be supporters of NRM government yet they are against the party according to their actions.

He called on NRM cadres to sensitize and mobilize local masses on uplifting their standards of living from subsistence to a money economy.


On the same function, Nakamya Harriet former the former Rukungiri District Resident Commissioner currently working in Serere district the RURDO founder of narrated that in previous years, opposition used to defeat NRM because of disunity but the narrative has since changed.

Nakamya called upon parents to sensitize their children from being diverted by false political parties that have their individual intentions rather than the Country’s Development. 

The Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon. Elisa Rutahigwa asked RURDO members to keep the current spirit for the 2026 general elections in favor of NRM as the party.

Natukunda Patrick aka JJ, the RURDO Chairperson confirmed that as organized members, they will keep on supporting NRM government in anyway for the benefit of all Ugandans.

The function was graced by the Rukungiri District Resident Commissioner RDC Bewayo Nsubuga Stephen, District boss Kyomukama Geoffrey among other invited guests.

Rukungiri Revival Development Organization (RURDO) is an organization that brings together people who were once in opposition political parties but later joined NRM.

It started in 2013 and it was officially launched on 1st December 2013 by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the National party Chairman and President of the Republic of Uganda.
