Meet ASP Walubo Benon an Officer who netted armed Rukungiri robbery suspect


RUKUNGIRI– When we talk of the Uganda Police Force, everyone knows that their role is to keep law and order. However, it takes alot of courage, determination and risk taking to become successful in handling different tasks. 

Dedicated service man ASP Walubo Benon known to many as Cadet is becoming effective in persuing different tasks and assignments given the role he serves at Rukungiri District Police Station.

He proved more of his expertise this week when a gang of armed robbers stormed Rukungiri town and took off with Millions of money from For God Electronics shop in the central business along Rubabo road.

Minutes after the incident, ASP Walubo led a team of officers and pitched a camp at Nyakibale where 30 Minutes later red-handedly arrested one of the suspects Dominic Twimugisha with a gun that had just fired at two people.

Unfortunately the two victims of the gunshots both passed on but the community and authorities have a testimony of the Police’ sacrifice in ensuring their safety.

In the same night, Panga weilding assailants also attacked and harmed a red cross employee to nearly amputating his arm. 

After mounting a roadblock at Kahengye bridge that connects Rukungiri to Ntungamo district, ASP Walubo together with a team of Officers managed net the suspect together with a panga and four phones one of which was grabbed from the victim.

What you didn’t know about ASP Benon Walubo

He was born on April 20th 1990 in Buyende district. 

He started schooling at Miru Primary School in Buyende, joined Standard College Buwagi in Kamuli District for his O level before joining Ntungamo high school in Ntungamo district where he emerged the best 2009 candidate in the district with 23 points.

Intelligent ASP Walubo whose Education was being supported by his peasant mother Nabirye Rebecca was offering History, Economics, Geography and Entrepreneurship skills joined Mbarara University of Science and Technology MUST and persued a Bachelor’s in  Accounting.

Walubo was one of only two students who passed with first class degrees out of over 400 students of their year.

He thereafter joined the Uganda Police in 2015 June and passed out on 10th September 2016. He was posted to Rukungiri district as his first area of deployment and work up to date.

In the years he has served in the area, ASP Walubo has been at the forefront of apprehending numberplate thieves in Rukungiri town, enforcement of the well known Lock down where everyone knew about Cadet.

ASP Walubo was recently praised by the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Stephen Bewayo Nsubuga (head of the District Security) for the expertise he invested in arresting the recent armed robbery suspect and panga welding men who attacked Rukungiri town on the same night of aggravated robbery and murder of two people.

He also well known for handling chaotic scenes that have always described the state of post primary co-curricular activities especially between the rival factions of Makobore High School and St Gerald’s Secondary School especially the most violent one in 2018.
