Police summons Pallisa County MP over Journalist’s assault


NEWS– The Police in Jinja have summoned the Pallisa district based Pallisa county legislator Hon. Otukol Sam alias Okello Samuel on allegations of assaulting a journalist.

According to the case registration number SD 63/16/11/2021 at Jinja road police station, the assaulted is Bunya Emmanuel.

In a letter dated 22nd November 2021 addressed to the legislator through the Right Honourable speaker of Parliament signed by Katto Paul Tumuhimbise on behalf of the Director at Criminal Investigations Directorate, the Honorable Member of Parliament is summoned to appear at CID headquarters on 24th November 2021 at 10:00am and will appear before D/ASP Sowedi Muhammad for statement recording.

“This is therefore to summon you to CID headquarters on 24th November 2021 at 10:00am before D/ASP Sowedi Muhammad for statement recording”, part of the letter read.

It is alleged that Bunya Emmanuel on 19th November 2021 while at the Anti-corruption court in Kololo was assaulted by the accused legislator as he was covering court proceedings where the same legislator was being charged with theft of over Ugx 1.8 Billion.

Tumuhimbise also directed that for any reply, the legislator should address it to the Director Criminal investigations Directorate.

Unconfirmed reports have of that the accused legislator beat up the journalist several times on the head allegedly accusing him of taking his pictures without his permission.
