Tororo medics urged to stick to code of conduct before joining doctors strike

TORORO– Yahaya Were the Tororo District Deputy RDC was on Monday November 22nd 2021 forced to make a follow up monitoring at Tororo main Hospital to access the situation as Medical workers commenced their Nation wide strike.

Yahaya only found intern doctors taking on the responsibilities as most of the doctors went into hiding within the facility.

According to the Tororo district medical supretendant Dr Thomas Ochar, there are only 8 doctors two of whom are on education leave translating to only six active ones currently.

According to Dr Ochar, these doctors attend to between 80 to 100 in and out patients minus emergencies on a daily basis.

The doctors at Tororo General Hospital have vowed to only offer services to critical cases like Mothers in labour and children.

Uryek Wun the senior Hospital administrator said that they are in talks with the doctors to return to duty as the government works out to solve their requirements that forced them into the current industrial action.

Wun showed optimism that they will soon come to a position and doctors’ industrial action will be called off thus appealing to practitioners in Tororo district to save lives before salaries.

The deputy RDC Yahaya Were pleaded with the doctors to continue saving lives of the people as government is working hard to have a permanent solution for their grievances.
