Nebbi Anglican Diocese gets 3rd Bishop

The newly Consecrated and Enthroned 3rd Bishop of Nebbi Diocese Rt Rev Ozelle Awinjo Pons

NEWS- Thousands of Christian’s have today thronged St Stephen’s Cathedral at Goli to witness the consecration and enthronment of The Rt. Rev. Ozelle Awinjo Pons as the 3rd Bishop of Nebbi Diocese.

The colourful ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu and was attended by many local and international partners.

Archbishop Kaziimba dedicated St Stephen’s Cathedral and prayed for its completion so that the new Bishop could be seated there in the new cathedral Bishop’s Chair which was donated by Equity Bank.

While delivering the sermon the Bishop of Lango Diocese Rt Rev Alfred Olwa, preached from Isaiah 61:1-8 and declared that the Spirit of the Lord had called and anointed Bishop Awinjo Pons to preach the good news of Jesus at this time in history, especially in Nebbi.

The newly consecrated Bishop Pons Ozelle also based his Charge on the same passage from Isaiah 61, which was summarized as “Restoration through Jesus Christ from whom tangible healing, repair, and hope will come”.

The Vice President Maj Jessica Alupo arrives at St Stephen’s Cathedral Goli in Nebbi District to attend the consecration and enthronment of Bishop Ozelle Awinjo Pons as the 3rd Bishop of Nebbi Diocese.

In light of the many challenges Bishop Pons Awinjo highlighted several strategies in his charge to take the Dioceses forward where he stressed the emphasis for Mission. Mission. Mission, especially among children, youth, and families.

He also said that the Diocese will emphasise the registration of church land so that it gets titles and promote SACCOs and tree planting at both household and institutional levels.

He also said that there is need to promote education, especially retaining Primary Teacher Training Colleges in the Diocese and upgrading clergy education.

The Vice President of Uganda, Major Jessica Aluppo, represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the function and pledged the support of the government as a development partner and presented a new brand car to the Bishop to facilitate his movements in the Diocese.
