President Museveni hosts United Kingdom Minister for Africa


ENTEBBE– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today January 19th 2022, hosted and held a meeting with the United Kingdom Minister for Africa Hon Vicky Ford.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, the two leaders met at State House Entebbe and according to a social massage from President Museveni handle they discussed issues of security in Africa and trade between UK and Uganda and the meeting was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Odong among others.

Hon Vicky Ford has already visited Somalia and Kenya as her part of 3 Eastern Africa countries visit where she announced a US 10 million dollar package from UK to support the Somalis affected by extreme draught.

The funding will provide vital assistance such as cash to buy urgent food supplies and water to help vulnerable families across Somalia that are desperately suffering from relentless draught.

While in Uganda, the UK Minister for Africa Vicky Ford announced that her country will donate another 1m Astra Zaneca vaccine to Uganda to support and help tackle key challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UK Minister for Africa Hon Vicky Ford and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni discussed security and trade issues at a meeting at State House Entebbe.

She said that she was impressed with collaboration between Uganda and UK in research to fight HIV/AIDS, Ebola and now COVID-19 and added that the efforts to strengthen the health systems has helped prevent deadly diseases across Africa and Uganda is one of the countries partnering with UK to tackle key challenges of the current generation.

The UK has been providing funding to high quality education particularly for girls and during her visit Hon Vicky Ford said that she was happy to meet the girls who have just returned to Onwards and Upwards School in Wakiso where she presided over the ground breaking for the construction of the expansion of the school.
