NEWS– At least eight passengers in a taxi including the driver were on Sunday rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital after surviving a road accident along the Mbarara-Masaka highway.
According to Mbarara Central Police Station, the accident occurred at about 2:40pm on Sunday, May 8th 2022 at Kanyaryeru along the Mbarara-Lyantonde stretch.
It involved a taxi plying the Lyantonde-Mbarara road, registration number UAZ 562G Toyota Hiace, white but the identity of the driver had not been established.
According to Fiona Angom, a traffic police officer, the driver and eight other victims who were passengers in the vehicle were rescued and rushed to Mbarara Hospital, some with serious injuries.
It is said the taxi was heading to Mbarara but when it reached Kanyaryeru, the hind tyre on the driver’s side burst, forcing the driver to lose control.
The taxi overturned and fell off the road. The police were tipped and later visited the scene and towed the wreckage.
The accident was registered as Mbarara CPS TAR 79/2022 as they continued to monitor the injured passengers and the driver to obtain their details.
