Rukungiri Resident District Commissioners share counties to ease service delivery

RUKUNGIRI- In a bid to ease service delivery and timely handling of cases, the Rukungiri district leadership has opened up another office that will be occupied by the deputy Resident District Commissioner Benson Ongom in Rubabo County.

The office based in Bwanga Trading Centre in Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri district will be handled by Ongom to oversee all the roles of the Resident District Commissioner in the four sub counties of Buyanja, Kebisoni, Nyarushanje, Nyakishenyi as well as Buyanja and Kebisoni Town councils.

Thursday’s commissioning ceremony in Bwanga Trading Centre was graced by a number of area and district leadership to oversee the landmark achievement in the area.

Stephen Bewayo Nsubga the Rukungiri District Resident Commissioner who was the day’s chief guest narrated that the office is meant to help people and ease access of service delivery for the people from hard to reach areas within the County.

Nsubuga added that this will reduce the backlog of cases in his office at the district headquarters since Rubabo county issues are now supposed to be handled at the Bwanga office.

“This office will go a long way in easing service delivery to the common people who have been flocking my office with land related issues that seem to be common in this area” he said.

He asked Ongom who will be handling this office to be a servant for all the people irrespective of their status as well as ensuring that Government programs are popularized in the area.

This means that RDC Nsubuga will now be responsible for people in Rujumbura county and Rukungiri Municipality and may be referrals from the Rubabo County office.

The Nyarushanje Sub County Councilor who doubles as the Rukungiri District Secretary for Health Mathias Rwabugumi and the mind behind this lobbying welcomed the idea asserting that it will ease service delivery to their people.

Rwabugumi who represents the sub county that hosts this office stressed that it was long overdue given the state of security in the area, teenage pregnancies, land issues, school drop outs, domestic violence and many others.

He added that people in the extreme ends of the district citing an example of Nyarushanje and Nyakishenyi have been spending huge sums of money to access the RDC’s office at the district headquarters stressing that this office will be a relief.

The commissioning function saw the District Vice Chairperson Hon Santrinah Nahwera calling on the community to embrace this office and always reach out to it to solve issues that would promote harmonious living in their communities.

The function was graced by the Chief Administrative Officer Hajji Masokoi Wasswa, Kebisoni Town Council Councilor Hon. David Kwebangira, Nyakishenyi sub county councilor Hon. Brian Bantu, Rukungiri District Police Commander SP Musa Tibakirana and DISO Christopher Wachaya among others.
