Rukiga District teachers equipped with hands on skills to boost their income

NEWS- Teachers from government Aided Primary and Secondary Schools in Rukiga District have been encouraged to save money with Rukiga Teachers SACCO.

This was during the one day workshop of the said teachers held at Buzooba COU, Rwamucucu Sub County in Rukiga District on 14th May 2022 organised by Walimu SACCOs Union Ltd together with education officials from Rukiga district.

According to Vastine Beyendera the district education officer Rukiga, the Teachers SACCO was formed to help teachers keep money and acquire loans at lower interest rate.

Nelson Agaba the commercial officer Rukiga District, noted that Teachers need to come together if they are to develop adding that this SACCO will help to solve most of their needs.

According to Eldard Karakuza an official from the Union, teachers should not only depend on their monthly salary but rather start side business to boost their income. He told our reporter that teachers were also equipped with Knowledge on how to make candles, Soap, Mushroom gardens among others which can also be income generating to them.

A senior consultant from Walimu SACCOs Union Ltd (WaSU) Robert Omongin Odeke stressed that this Union was formed with an aim of helping teachers in forming SACCOs countrywide to attain seed capital at lower interests.

He also told our reporter that teachers have started understanding the intension of the Union and that they are joining.
