Rukungiri residents to enjoy constant water supply as Kahengye Water Works near completion

NEWS– The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo has reassured the people of Rukungiri District that they will start using the Kahengye Water Gravity Flow scheme .

The RDC made the remarks shortly after the Project Manager Rajendar Lumar of TECHNOFAB Engineering Services took him together with the media on the guided tour of the scheme.

The Project Manager of the Ugx 48 billion Kahengye water works admitted that there were some small technical issues which are being sorted out like pipe leaks which have been identified and currently being sorted out.

The team was taken to sites where bursts water pipes were reported and workers were seen fixing the broken pipes.

RDC Nsubuga Bewayo said that he was satisfied with the structural work which has been completed so far and hopes that the final work will be done in the next 2 months as promised by the contractor.

He asked the people of Rukungiri who have been patient since 2017 when the project started to remain so for the next few months as the contractor completes fixing the issues that rose up during pressure testing that proved how some areas had issues to rectify.

Rukungiri District Water Officer Eng Deus Tumwekwase said that the project is now at 98% completion because most of the technical aspects of the construction have been completed.

The RDC’s visit to the Kahengye Water Works was prompted by several complaints from the members of the general public who said that they have waited for long to start using the water whose works started more than 5 years ago yet it was expected to last for 3 years.

One of the complainants Maanige Wenslas, a businessman in Rukungiri Municipality said that their businesses have been negatively affected by the delayed completion of Kahengye Water works which they hoped would ensure constant water supply that has remained a dream.

Maanige who personally joined the RDC team to inspect the Kahengye water works said that unless the water starts flowing in taps, the project will remain as good as useless since the water can not benefit the intended end beneficiaries.

Upon completion, the Kahengye Gravity Waterflow scheme will serve the people of Kebisoni Sub County,  Kebisoni Town Council, Buyanja Town Council and Sub county, Rukungiri Municipality, Nyakagyeme Sub County and Rwerere Town Council before its is extended to other areas.
