KAMPALA- The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) has announced that they will recogonise and give awards to different categories of stakeholders both in public and private sector who have excelled in executing the public procurement and disposal functions for national development.
This was revealed on Monday by the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority Executive Director Canon Benson Turamye while addressing journalists during a press conference at Uganda Media Center in Kampala.
The press conference was convened by Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) to officially announce the forth coming PPDA Business Exposition 2022 which will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds from 8th to 10th July 2022.
According to Canon Turamye, the PPDA Business Exposition 2022, will provide companies with a unique platform to network with various stakeholders while assisting service providers to tap into opportunities that public procurement offers to accelerate recovery from the social economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canon Turamye said that the goal of the Business Exposition 2022 is to enhance stakeholders understanding of the public procurement and disposal of public assets .
He said the government of Uganda spends up to 60% of its budget on Public Procurement of a vast range of goods, services and works, therefore the PPDA Business Exposition 2022, provides an ultimate place for any service provider for new businesses opportunities.
“The Expo will also give an opportunity to government agencies to showcase their achievements and accountability to the citizens” Canon Turamye noted.
Turamye also said that the Expo will offer an opportunity to service providers and other stakeholders a chance to engage with key personel and organisations that contribute to public procurement since most of the procurement officers from different departments will be at the venue to network and engage with suppliers.
He also said that the the PPDA Business Exposition 2022 will provide training to stakeholders on the newly introduced Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) and conduct skills development sessions which will all be provided free of charge.
He explained that all suppliers and other government service providers who have not registered for e-GP will be registered and trained for free and PPDA certificates will immediately be accessed in one day.
“The Expo will also host a one stop business center to serve the public by different government departments and agencies” He said.
Turamye, therefore appealed to all rsgistered service providers, accounting officers across the government ministries, departments and local governments to participate in the exhibition at the venue.
