Ntungamo pilgrim knocked dead by speeding vehicle

KIRUHURA- A speeding vehicle knocked dead a pilgrim at Akageti, in Kiruhura district.

The deceased was identified as Joventa Tukahirwa, 54, from Kitwe Catholic Parish in Ntungamo. She was part of 44 Christians that are walking to Namugongo.

Tukahirwa was knocked on Saturday at around 4pm. This is not the first time a pilgrim is being knocked dead enroute to Namugongo.

On May 31, 1998 at Lwankima along the Jinja-Kampala highway on his way to Namugongo to celebrate Marytrs’ Day, John Kibe, a Kenyan pilgrim died in a car accident at Buwolo village in Mabira forest, present Buikwe district.

Annually, Kenyan Pilgrims hold special prayers in memory of Kibe as they walk to Namugongo shrines to celebrate the Martyr’s day.

In 2019, Four Kenyan pilgrims died while four others sustained injuries after a commuter taxi whose driver lost control rammed into them at Bugodi Village along the Iganga-Jinja highway.

The group consisted of about 100 pilgrims who were walking from Lakiri Catholic Parish in Bungoma Diocese.
