Hailstorm hit Kanungu District receives relief food from OPM

NEWS– Kanungu district has received  20,000 Kgs of Maize and 10,000 Kgs of beans from the office of Prime Minister in response to the people who were affected by the heavy hailstorm early this year.

The hailstorm hit Kanungu district on January 4th 2022 in areas of Kihiihi Town Council Kihiihi Sub-County, Nyamirama Town Council and Kayonza Sub-County. 

Subsequently, according to the Office of the Prime Minister, Kinkizi West Member of Parliament Hon James Ruggi Kaberuka and the the NRM Deputy Treasurer Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire wrote to this Office seeking for relief food for the affected families. 

The food relief items were received on Thursday May 26th 2022 by the Resident District Commissioner Ambrose Mwesigye Amanyire who extended his gratitude to the Office of the Prime Minister for the quick response adding that the response is for the first incident that occurred in January 2022.

The RDC explained that the relief for the recent catastrophe that hit Kanungu Town Council has not yet arrived but its being worked on.

Kanungu District Chairperson Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo expressed his concern to the most recent affected area of Kanungu Town Council who were hit by hailstorm on 12th May 2022, and asked the residents to remain calm as their relief is about to arrive in the District. 

According to the Chief Administrative Robert Abenaitwe, Kayonza Sub-County received 130 bags of maize flour and 70 bags of beans, Kihiihi Sub-County got 130 bags of posho, 70 bags of beans, Kihiihi Town Council got 70 bags of posho, 30 bags of beans and Nyamirama Town Council 70 bags of maize flour 30 bags of beans.
