Man returns home after 8 years, commits suicide in Rukiga district


NEWS– The Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances under which a 34 year old man returned home after 8 years only to commit suicide at his father’s home.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Rumanzi Emmanuel a resident of Rugarama cell in Central Ward, Rukiga District. 

Its reported that a brother to the deceased Mutatina Peter returned from Kabale Town where he works and upon opening the door of the house where they stay with their father,  Mutatina found his elder brother Rumanzi hanging on the rope at the entrance of the door to the bedroom.

Mutatina there after informed their father one Tukwasibwe Charles who reported the matter to Mparo Police post stressing that the deceased had gone back home from unknown place after a period of 8 years.

Tukwaibwe also told the Police that the deceased became a drunkard in the village and whenever he was drunk, he always talked of hanging himself with the rope.

Maate told journalists that Police visited the scene and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial as inquiries continue  to ascertain the truth of the matter.

A case of suicide was registered at Rukiga Central Police Station under reference number CRB 265/2022.
