SAD! Kabale University Student commits suicide


NEWS– The Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 22 year old Kabale University student who allegedly committed suicide.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the incident that was today morning reported by one Namanya Aderah a resident of Rweza cell, Kitojo parish Rwamucucu sub county.

Maate told journalists that Nasasira Bibiana who was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social administration committed suicide by hanging.

Its reported that the deceased was found hanging in a tree in Rweza Cell behind the sister’s house for yet unknown reason.

Namanya informed the Police that the deceased arrived at her home on Monday 27th June 2022 with intentions of residing with her since she wanted to start her internship at nearby Rukiga District Local Government Headquarters.

The sister narrated that on Tuesday evening, she detected her being restless and upon asking her what the problem was, she couldn’t say anything till Wednesday morning when the neighbour while going to the hospital to check on a friend who had given birth, saw the deceased hanging on a tree behind the sister’s house using a lesu.

The neighbour who was not revealed by the Police immediately informed Namanya who inturn called the father Sigirenda Kalist of Rutoma cell, Nyakagabagaba Parish, Rwamucucu Sub County who confirmed that he has lost so many relatives thru suicide and termed it as a family curse.

Maate said that the scene was visited and documented by the Homicide Detectives team led by Turyamutangurira Nelson and body handed over to the family members for burial.

Maate however condemned the act by the deceased to end his life saying that it was very unfortunate and uncalled for to end self life for issues that could have been handled amicably by relevant offices.

The case of suicide by hanging has been registered at Rukiga Central Police Station under reference number CRB 280/2022 to help in investigations.
