MP Kateshumbwa donates over 150 wheelchairs to Sheema Municipality PWDs


SHEEMA- Ugandans taking care of people living with disabilities and the elderly have been encouraged to think of a number of interventions in addressing issues concerning the lame.

This was raised during the ceremony of giving wheelchairs and walking sticks to PWDs at Kabwohe play ground in Sheema Municipality, Sheema district.

Wheelchairs and sticks to the elderly and people living with disabilities were donated by Hon. Kateshumbwa Dickson, the Municipal Member of Parliament who was represented by the Municipal Council speaker Hon. Steven Katwiromunda at the ceremony.

Hon. Tumwijukye Colleb, a Councilor for the PWDs and chairperson social services committee Sheema Municipality said that people with disabilities are taken to be a curse to the society, a narrative that needs to be changed.

While addressing the gathering, Hon. Steven Katwiromunda, who doubles as the political assistant to Hon. Kateshumbwa said that disabled people should not be left behind and need support.

He cited that people living with disabilities need to fully engage in government programs like the Parish Development Model to improve their income.

Over 150 people living with disabilities and the elderly were provided with wheelchairs and sticks to help in easing mobility.

Beneficiaries who interacted with were appreciative for being thought about stressing that transport has been eased through this life changing donation.

They also called for more government intervention to implement laws that will enable PWDs to enjoy their rights.
