EC boss Byabakama orders for immediate release of FDC leaders & supporters in Soroti

SOROTI– The Electoral Commission Uganda chairperson, Simon Byabakama has asked Police to release FDC supporters in their custody.

Byabakama said this while at Omalera polling station to see how voting can resume after it was suspended over ballot stuffing as we reported earlier.

The order follows arrest of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Patrick Amuriat together with other 44 party officials as security operatives raided Soroti Woman MP Anna Adeke’s home in Soroti District on Wednesday night, hours to Soroti East Division parliamentary by-election.

Ms Adeke told this reporter that her house in Akisim ward was broken into by police and the army before arresting her colleagues who were preparing for today’s by-election.

Amuriat, several other legislators and party officials are said to be detained in Dokolo District after the 11pm to 3am security raid.

The latest we have is that two polling stations i.e Omaalera and opuyo are currently not participating in the ongoing soroti by-election polls that are supposed to be in 64 polling stations.
