RUKUNGIRI– A member of Rukungiri TASO Advisory Center Committee, George Owakukiroru, has urged members of the public to join The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) in order to help scale up its operations in supporting the AIDS victims.
Owakukiroru made the call on Monday August 1st 2022 while speaking at Kebisoni Town Council Playgrounds where he represented the Chairman of Rukungiri TASO Center Advisory Committee Chairman Geoffrey Tindarwesire.
He said that TASO used to get donations from foreign supporters and also some government grants but this has since declined thus call for support from local resource mobilisation in order to keep support for TASO clients.
According to TASO Rukungiri Center Manager Ms Agnes Kateeba, the Organisation is carrying out outreach activities which include free HIV/AIDS testing and football matches as part of the TASO week ahead of the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 19th August 2022 at their Headquarters in Rukungiri Municipality.
Kateeba confided to reporters that a similar event would be carried out on August 12th 2022 at Nyakagyeme Sub County Headquarters.
Speaking at the function, the Kebisoni Town Council Mayor Alex Nathan Mugabe commended TASO management for taking their massage to an outreach like Kebisoni and pledged support as he immediately applied to join TASO as a member.
The event climaxed with friendly football and netball match between TASO staff and Kebisoni Town Council staff which were won by Kebisoni Town Council and were awarded a trophy to cement a relationship between the two organisations.
The function was also attended by Kebisoni Town Clerk Adrine Keshaaha among other important people.
