PALLISA– The National NRM Chairman and President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has arrived at Obutet Primary School to wrap up the campaign for Hon Derrick Orone, who is the NRM flag bearer for Gogonyo county.
President Museveni arrived amidst chants from the local people who chanted ‘Baba Wetu’ in appreciation of his role in pacifying the nation.
The President told the people of Gogonyo that the NRM party has a manifesto that focuses on reaching every corner in Uganda and therefore the voters should support their candidate Orone because he will be able to make sure that serviceS reach the community.The seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal ruled that the incumbent MP, Derrick Orone, was irregularly elected following a petition by Issa Bantalib Taligola.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party candidate in this by-election pulled out of the race after meeting Teso cultural leader Papa Paul Sande Emorot.
In a statement issued at 11 a.m. on August 07, Emorot of the Iteso Cultural Union announced that Okoboi’s decision was meant for the unity of the Iteso.
The withdrawal of Mutabazi marked the oppositions’ closing of ranks in order to effectively overcome what anti-government forces described as military dictatorship in Uganda.
