Rwandan National dies days after assault in Rubanda


RUBANDA– The Police in Rubanda district are investigating circumstances under which a 60 year-old man only identified as Kanyarutokye, a Rwandan national has deid of suspected murder.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson says that the deceased has been a casual worker of Turinawe Alexander, a teacher by profession and a resident of Kanyamatembe cell, Nyarurambi Ward, Rubanda Town council in Rubanda district.

Maate told the press that the incident happened last Month on 31st July 2022 at around 5pm at  Kanyamatembe Town centre in Nyarurambi Ward, Rubanda district and was reported by Tibemanya Bruno 42 years, the area village chairperson.

It’s alleged that on the said day while at Kanyamatembe Town centre in Rubanda District, the deceased was at Niwagaba Aloysius’ bar with others at around 8Pm. Among them was a one known as Orishaba whom he bought for a soda and musheshe drink at Ugx 2000  and left without paying.

From there, the deceased proceeded to the bar of Agaba Innocent where Niwagaba Aloysius found and assaulted bitterly.

Maate revealed that on 1st August 2022, the deceased reported the matter to the Chairperson who gave him a case forwarding letter to the Police.

The Police PRO adds that the Chairperson later heard that the deceased did not report the matter to Police nor gone for treatment but rather decided to amicably reconcile with Niwagaba.

Now, Maate noted that on Monday, the Kanyarutokye died while vomiting blood and that the case of his death was reported by chairman at Rubanda Police Station under reference number SD: 28/09/08/2022.

He also said that the scene is yet to be visited, no arrests have been made yet and by press time, the body was yet to be taken for  postmortem.
