Immaculate Heart Girls’ School Nyakibale to host Focolare Movement Mariapolis National conference


RUKUNGIRI– The famous Ugandan Girls’ School Immaculate Heart Girls Nyakibale is set to host over 50 schools and members of Focolare movement for a five day focolare conference that will begin on Saturday 13th – 17 August 2022.

The focolare Movement is an international organization that promotes the ideas of unity and universal brotherhood.

The Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale Deputy Headmistress Sister Sabiina Tumusiime, one of the conference organizing committee members explains that Focolare movement is  for spiritual and social renewal.

It is also known as the “Work of Mary which was founded in Trent, Italy in 1943 by Chiara Lubich and her closest friends which was later  approved by the Catholic Church in 1962.

Sister Tumusiime adds that this year’s conference will be under the theme “dare to care “ and different people from all districts of Uganda will be in attendance including the youths, religious leaders from all denominations and students from different schools countrywide.

She says that the mariapolis 2022 is aimed at equiping  all participants with more spiritual knowledge as different topics while be taught including parenting, living together, environmental protection, personnel care in addition to guidance and counseling.

She revealed that as the host school, Over 150 students of Immaculate Heart will attend as well as other Schools that have registered like St Cecelia Girls Bushenyi, St Charles Lwanga Seminary Nyakibale among others.

Sister Sabiina says student are entitled to pay Ugx 50,000, Ugx 30,000 children and Ugx 100,000 for individual adults as registration to attend the Focolare conference.

Sister Gladyce Kachope the Immaculate Heart Girls School headteacher intimated to reporter that it’s a blessing to  host such an event and she has much hopes that it will equip all participants with relevant Knowledge and skills.

Sister Kachope added that, her School also have this movement and it won’t be attended by only students but all other people are invited because it will be productive to them in different life fields.

Although Chiara Lubich, founder of the international Focolare movement died at 88 years, the movement is said to have more than 140,000 core members and 2.1 million adherents in 182 countries.

The conservative group focolare aims at spreading Christian values by strengthening traditional families and promoting ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue.

Chaira Lubich the founder experienced a religious awakening in a bomb shelter during World War II and felt a call to alleviate human suffering.

She centered on the belief that one did not have to become a priest or nun to live a full Christian life.

Focolare includes people with no religious affiliation, faithful of the world’s religions, Christians of various denominations, and Catholics sharing the movement’s goal and spirit, while at the same time following their own faith and conscience.
