Kwizera Wa-gahungu wins Bukimbiri byelection

NEWS– Kisoro District Electoral Commission Returning Officer Nayebare Daniel has declared Kwizera Eddy Wagahungu as the winner of Bukimbiri County by elections after defeating 3 other candidates.

Kwizera Wagahungu who was the NRM sponsored candidate got 12,214 votes to emerge the winner of a hotly contested election, followed by Independent candidate Turyagyenda Asgario who got 10,105 votes while Mutabazi Edward also independent got 308 votes and Owebeyi James of FDC trailed with 280 votes.

Earlier during the campaigns, a NUP candidate Mutabazi Julius withdrew from the race and crossed to the ruling National Resistance Movement party. 

Meanwhile the Electoral Commission has declared ruling NRM party candidate, Derrick Orone as the winner of the Gogonyo County by-election in Pallisa district.

The Palisa District Returning Officer, Othieno Daniel said that Orone got 19,199 votes against opposition National Unity Platform’s  Joseph Opolot Okoboi who got only 519 votes.

Earlier, Orone seemed unopposed in the Gogonyo County race after his challengers including Bantalib Taligola and Okoboi withdrew from the race during President Museveni’s visit but his party never accepted his decision.
