Nawangwe’s tenure at Makerere University renewed for more 5 years


NEWS– Makerere University Chancellor Prof Ezra Suruma has reappointed Prof Barnabas Nawangwe for a 2nd term as Vice Chancellor which will last for 5 years.

This was revealed today by Makerere University Secretary Yusuf Kiranda in a letter addressed to all staff and students of the University.

Kiranda said that Prof Nawangwe tenure of office was renewed according to provisions of section 3(4) of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act and was recommended by the University Council which is the top policy making organ of the University.

“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chancellor and the University Council for recognising Prof Nawangwe’s distinguished services and granting him the opportunity another term as we celebrate 100 years” University Secretary Kiranda letter reads in part.

Kiranda said that Makerere University community congratulated Prof Nawangwe on this appointment and guarantee continue collaboration and support to Makerere University as it enters a new century of service to humanity.

This new announcement has put to rest speculation that was looking forward to Prof Nawangwe retirement and departure from Makerere University next month.

Prof Nawangwe had been at the helm of Makerere University for the last 5 years after he was appointed by the University Council in 2017.
