Man hangs self dead in Rukiga

NEWS– The Police in Rukiga district have registered a suicide case by hanging of Ivan Ampumuze 33, of Rwamajoro cell Kandago parish in Bukinda sub county, Rukiga district.

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson told journalists that the case was reported by Benard  Kagurusi,

the Kitaburaza cell local one council chairman in Butali ward, Muhanga town council.

ASP Maate noted that the victim has been allegedly with a mental problem since June 2022 which worsened for the last two weeks.

Police understood that while the family was organising resources to take him for a mental treatment, on Saturday morning 17th September 2022, the mother called Kagurusi to help bring her a chain such that they can always tie him with it.

Before the chain could be brought, Ampumuze moved behind the kitchen and sat there while singing and shortly his mother who was in the house cooking had a funny noise behind the kitchen where the deceased was.

According to Maate, the mother moved faster and found when had already hanged himself in a rope but still alive and made an alarm that brought the deceased’s elder brother Tumukwase Roland who lifted him from the rope.

The rope had unfortunately squeezed Ampumuze who died instantly when he was put down.

ASP Maate adds that Police was notified, responded to the scene that they processed and documented as well as registering a case at Rukiga Central Police Station under reference number CRB 431/2022 for further Investigations.
