Renowned Rukungiri boda boda cyclist murdered, 4 arrested

NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district have arrested four people alleged to have knowledge on the alllleged murder of a 43-year-old boda boda cyclist.

ASP Ellly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson identified the deceased Martin Tindimwebwa, a motorcyclist resident of Rugyendwa village in Kyamakanda parish, Buyanja sub county in Rukungiri district.

ASP Maate told journalists that the deceased was last seen at Rugyendwa pub on Monday 19th September 2022 at around 8AM and on Tuesday morning 20th September 2022 at around 7AM, school-going children discovered his body lying in a stream along Omukikazi to Omukayaga trading center about 150-meters from his home,

The Police PRO adds that the deceased’s motorcycle registration number UEB 828Y Bajaj boxer red in color was also at the scene.

Upon receiving the information, they notified his elder brother Moses Niwamanya Itareba who instead of reporting to Police tampered with the scene by removing the body to the home of the deceased for yet an unknown motive.

The incident leaked to the area chairperson Ntwiga Deo who reported death by drowning at Buyanja police station and CPS Rukungiri was accordingly informed for further management. Maate stresses that the scene of crime was visited and documented by the DCID/O, and team who established the reported incident to be murder.

The motorcycle, helmet, two phones, and clothes were picked from the stream, the body was picked from the home and taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for Postmortem examination to ascertain the actual cause of the death.

The four suspects in custody are Niwamanya Moses Itareba who ordered the removal of the body from the scene and alleged to have had a land conflict suspected to be the reason for the murder, Niwamanya Fred 28, Manyumba Denis 40, and Niwagaba Martin 30.

Maate says the suspects participated in removing the body from the scene.
